Project > POINT ABSORBER TECHNOLOGY
A Point Absorber is an oscillating device that oats on the free surface of the water or beneath it. Such devices are able to absorb energy from every direction of the incoming waves, and can move according to three DOF: heave, surge and pitch. The motion of the PA is described as a planar motion since the device is designed to have an axial symmetry along the vertical axis.
Point Absorber diverges from the other technologies owned by the Group,
indeed while the WEC devices are floating bodies, the Point Absorber Technology operates under the sea surface. His oscillating motion is converted in electric energy by a PTO.
One of the most important characteristic of the point absorber function is the swept volume which is connected to the maximum stroke of the PTO system and as a result, influences the power productivity. It must be selected taking into account the available wave power of the sea site.
